SHIP was an educational programme originally conceived over 15 years ago by a Birmingham GP and her colleagues. SHIP successfully delivered sexual and reproductive health education to all general practice clinical and non clinical staff throughout Birmingham during this time.
It was funded by Public Health England and was based in the Heart of England Foundation Trust from which they collaborated with other organisations such as MEDFASH and South East London Sexual Health and HIV Network.
SHIP took a unique approach in addressing sexual healthcare in Primary Care and consistently managed to alter clinician's approach and practice. SHIP also used peer educators who acted as catalysts for change in their own practices as well as in other contexts.
